Compare LiteSpeed vs Apache vs Nginx

Compare LiteSpeed Apache2 and Nginx Servers

Everybody doesn’t want to wait, even less when they are searching on the internet. In 2020, the internet has become really fast in many ways.

Getting the best as a hosting server can be tricky. Shared hosting, dedicated resources, VPS and many more hosting services are available.

Some are free and some are really expensive. For example, google hosting starts at about 100$ USD per month for their cheapest server.

What happens if you don’t want to start there?
Much great company offers affordable services for a tiny part of that price.

The cheapest I saw was actually hosting are for about 1.99$ per month for a shared server. Godaddy has some great offers for low-performance servers.

Nginx vs Apache vs Openliteserver

Apache is by far the most popular in 2020. It’s currently the most common hosting server on the web since it’s really user-friendly. Apache has most of the popular modules and plugins available with thousands of tutorials on the internet.

Nginx, on the other hand, is probably the second most popular engine. It has better performance than apache2 but still lacking in options for modules and add-ons.

Many people that start on the web should go with them but…

Openlitespeed is the best option

  • If you are focussing on the loading speed of your website.
  • If you are willing to learn and focus on a heavier duty server, you should go with open lite speed servers.

Openlitespeed exists for a while now with many great performances under the hood.

The only problem with open lite speed is that it’s much less popular than apache2 and Nginx. Less community, fewer tutorials and fewer people that know this engine.

When I started to use Openlitespeed, I got a huge boost in performance on my websites. It took me some time to configure my 9 websites on my VPS but it is worth it.

apache, openlitespeed, nginx server

What kind of increase in loading speed, performance, TTFB…

I saw a boost of 400 to 600% of speed on them. Even without testing much of the possibility of Openlitespeed, I got a huge boost in loading speed.

The lite speed cache plugin was fairly easy to configure. Few clicks and the WordPress website was going as fast a rocket going to the moon.

For more than 10 years, I was using the stable and popular apache system. There are many other great things about Openlitespeed.

The server needs less CPU and RAM for the same number of people on the websites. That means that even if you have a huge spike of traffic at some time, open lite speed will be able to handle it even better than apache2 or Nginx.

Many web interfaces are available for that engine. Cpanel, Webmin, cyber admin and many more. Cpanel is the most popular but there’s no free option for it.

What’s the best Cpanel alternative?

Webmin is the most popular Cpanel alternative for apache2 and Nginx. Cyberadmin is the one you should look at if you are going with Openlitespeed.

Most of them offer great options and it’s easier to navigate to the options of the server. You always can configure your server by running commands in a terminal, but it requires some knowledge in UNIX systems.

Ubuntu, Debian, and other Linux systems are not that hard to understand. As long as you are willing to give it some time, you can find really useful tutorials all around the web.

For now, I really think more and more people will switch to Openlitespeed and lite speed enterprise in the next few years.

There are always other ways to speed up your hosting server besides changing company or web engine. Caching, gzip compression, CSS and js optimization, CDN and many more options are available for you.

You always can pay for already built servers instead of building your own, but you don’t really know what’s the config or software that’s installed on them.

Conclusion

After looking at all the options we have for hosting servers and engines, we can say that Open Lite Speed is the winner in many ways. Keep in mind that configuring a dedicated server or VPS can be difficult, but if you are willing to learn, it will be worth it.
